Luther J. Gafford
Most Excellent Grand High Priest – 2015
Luther Junior Gafford was born September 1, 1945 to James Luther and Geneva Evelyn Gafford in Detroit, Michigan. He was educated in the Michigan school system. He served our country in the USMC from 1963 – 1967, spending 13 months in Vietnam.
He worked for General Motors Corp. and retired after 33 yrs. of service.
Brother Gafford has been married to Brenda Sue Gafford since 1991 and together they have seven children. They are of the Baptist faith.
He was raised in Golden Ark Lodge #595, in Michigan, on June 25, 1984. He became a dual member of Stooksbury Lodge #602 in Tennessee in 2003. He demitted from Stooksbury Lodge #602 in 2005. He became a plural member of La Follette Lodge #623 in 2005 and helped merge La Follette Lodge #623 with Caryville Lodge #665 to form Campbell County Lodge #778. He served as Worshipful Master in 2007. He is currently serving as Treasurer. He served the Grand Lodge as a member of the Ways & Means Committee from 2008 – 2011. He was appointed Junior Grand Deacon for the year 2012.
He was exalted in Loyalty Chapter #165 in Michigan in 1986. He demitted in 2003 and joined Hiram Chapter #212 in Tennessee, serving as High Priest in 2011. He received the Order of the High Priesthood in 2011.
He was greeted in Monroe Council #1 in Detroit, MI in 1986. He demitted in 2005 and joined Hiram Council #137 in Tennessee, serving as Illustrious Master in 2012. He received The Order of the Silver Trowel in 2012. In 2008, he was appointed Grand Sentinel of the Grand Council. He received the Super Excellent Degree in 2008.
He was knighted in Detroit #1 Commandery in Michigan in 1986 and demitted in 2003. He joined Chevalier Commandery #21, in Tennessee, serving as Commander in 2010. He demitted in 2011 from Chevalier Commandery #21 and assisted in forming Campbell County Commandery #44, serving as the first Commander. He served as Grand Sword Bearer and received the Knight Crusader of the Cross in 2010.
He is a member of Tennessee Priory #15 KYCH, the Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies, holding the rank of 33°, Frizzell #143, Knoxville York Rite College receiving the Order of the Purple Cross, St Mathias Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, Allied Masonic Degrees, Knight Mason, Knoxville York Rite Association, National Sojourners, Honorary Kentucky Colonel, Masonic Societas Rosicruciana in Civitiatibus Foederatis, St. Thomas of Acon, Royal Order of Scotland, past President of Robert the Bruce Society, Kerbela Shiners and Masonic Order of the Four Black Llamas.
In the Grand Royal Arch Chapter, he is the Grand Representative to Michigan.
Companion Gafford was elected Grand Captain of the Host in 2012, advancing each year and was elected Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons in Tennessee on March 24, 2015.
